Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon Road Closures
The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon takes to the streets of the city tomorrow (Friday) with Kenenisa Bekele chasing a new world record.
Of course, such a prestigious world-class event requires some mild disruptions and the event’s traffic management team have outlined the road closures around the race.
Umm Sequim Road will close from midnight tonight (Thursday) for Start and Finish areas to be built. The Marathon route itself will start to close down from 1.00am tomorrow (Friday). The Marathon route closures run from the traffic signals at the Westin Hotel in Al Sufouh to the Dubai Dry Docks traffic signals and includes all of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street and Jumeirah Beach Road as well as Al Wasl Road from Al Thanya Street to Umm Sequim Road and Abdullah Omran Taryam Street from the Dubai Tram crossing to Umm Sequim Road.
Due to the length of the course it will take several hours to completely close the route. The Marathon team will endeavour to permit access for residents for as long as possible on the cross route junctions, but there will be inevitable delays and restrictions.
As soon as possible after the race has cleared and with the excellent assistance of the RTA and Dubai Police, the course will re-open in sections with a view to having all of the route open prior to 1.00pm. Umm Sequim Road will open once all of the infrastructure has been removed from the carriageway.
To the people of Dubai, we thank you for your patience and support – to all the runners, have a great race!
