A sudden rush of runners keen to sign up for the 2012 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon has led to race organisers extending the entry deadline for the $1 million race scheduled for Downtown Dubai on January 27.

Three time London Marathon winner and twice a winner over the classic distance in New York, Kenyan running great Martin Lel will make his Middle East debut when he joins the field for the 2012 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon on January 27.

Defending champions David Barmasai and Asselefech Medessa will return to the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon next month and like the many of the elite field they will have one thing on their minds – Olympic qualification.
