Running Apps Keep An Eye On The Race

Family and friend will be able to follow runners in tomorrow’s (Friday) races thanks to the “Facebook Timing Ticker” and the mika:timing tracking app.

For the Facebook Timing Ticker, once a runner has registered they will get split times and a finish time posted to their Facebook walls. Your friends can follow you and comment. Simply follow the instructions after clicking on the facebook logo after you have found yourself in the start list. Let your friends participate in your run.

To get the mika tracking app, runners should download the app free of charge from the iOS and Android app stores and get live tracking – benefits include:

• Your family and friends can follow your position and your estimated finish time during your 42.195km Marathon or 10km Road Race time via the live web results service.
• For yourself during the race, you receive all split times and your estimated finish time LIVE in the app.
• With using the tracking app, your position is based on GPS data and not only predicted from the last timing point.
• Timing and tracking combined in one tool.

How it works:

• Activate mobile data on your smartphone and have the battery fully charged.
• Start the app and login with your RegistrationID & Lastname. You receive the RegistrationID with a seperate email on the day before the race.
• Choose your privacy settings.
• Share the results link with your followers.

To activate, simply push the “Start Tracking” button shortly before the race starts and stop it at the end.

When not using the app, when tracking is not activated or if your privacy settings are restricted, your position on the public results pages is only predicted based on split times. With using the app though, you have the chance to get tracked more precisely.

The best place to wear the phone is on the arm. Make sure that you do not cover the antenna. The service can only be provided with enabled mobile data and sufficient mobile network coverage. Please not that mika tracking runs on iPhones from generation 4 with iOS 7 an higher as well as on Android devices with firmware from 4.x.
